Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has opened up on the possibility of his team signing Colin Kaepernick.

Colin Kaepernick is on a mission to make a return to the NFL after years away following his release from the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2017 season after a year in which he used his platform to bring awareness to social issues within the United States.

The last few years have seen him take on a number of social issues and become one of the poster boys for justice within the United States, but has also been involved in a lawsuit against the NFL, who he believes are colluding together to keep him from playing again due to his outspoken nature.

Recently though he took his latest step to becoming a quarterback in the NFL once again as he took part in a tryout with the Las Vegas Raiders, with reports emerging afterward that he had impressed those who were watching, with NFL Network reporter Ian Rapaport claiming the door was ‘open’ for the two sides to strike a deal.

He’s got a tough job to displace Derek Carr

Whilst Kaepernick might be looking for a job in the league, the chances are that he isn’t going to dislodge Derek Carr from the starting role in Sin City.

About to start his 9th season in the league, Carr has become a very reliable quarterback for the Raiders and someone that can offer them a very good platform on which to build for the future.

He’s missed just two games since being named the starter at the beginning of his rookie season and has managed to throw for 31,700 yards and 193 touchdowns against just 85 interceptions, never going through a season in which he threw more picks than TDs.

But whatever job Kaepernick ends up taking, it seems as if Carr would be delighted to have him on board.

What has Derek Carr said?

Speaking during a recent media session during the Raiders’ minicamp, Carr opened up about his time working with Kaepernick and how much he enjoyed it:

So it would appear as though he wouldn’t have any problems if the team were to bring him on board in some capacity.

The Raiders already have four quarterbacks on the roster, with Nick Mullens, Jarrett Stidham and Chase Garbers all waiting for their chance to replace Carr, so there is plenty of competition for Kaepernick to even crack the team, but it will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.
