Rafael Nadal further cemented himself as one of the greatest tennis players to ever take to the court when he clinched his 14th French Open this past weekend.

The win at Roland Garros was the 22nd Grand Slam the Spaniard has won during his 21-year career as a professional, adding to his four US Open titles, two Wimbledon wins and two Australian Open victories.

His latest win, which was sealed in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 against Norwegian Casper Ruud, has netted him €2.2 million (£1,882,463) in prize money, according to tennisworldusa.

That has taken his earnings for this season alone to £4,553,955.50, the most of any male player on the circuit.

Across his whole career, Nadal has earned a staggering £104,059,042.52 in tournament prize money.

Nadal's Injury Concerns

He had to overcome a chronic foot injury in order to claim the hefty sum of cash and win a record-extending 14th French title.

The injury problems have led to rumours that Nadal, who only recently turned 36 years old, could retire, however, he has so far denied any possibility of hanging up his racket just yet.

"For me personally, it is very difficult to describe the feelings that I have," he said.

"It's something that I never believed that I would be here at 36, being competitive again, playing on the most important court of my career one more time in a final.

"It means everything to me. It means a lot of energy to try to keep going. I just want to say 'merci, merci beaucoup'.

"I don't know what can happen in the future but I am going to keep fighting to try to keep going."

Since making his debut at Roland Garros in 2005, Nadal has only lost on three occasions.

The most recent of those came in last year's semi-final against fellow tennis great Novak Djokovic as the Serbian beat Nadal 3-1 on route to winning the competition.
