West Ham are interested in re-signing Jesse Lingard this summer but could face an issue with the player's wages, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The attacking midfielder continues to be linked with a return to the London Stadium, and Talbot says there is substance behind all of the speculation.

What is the latest news involving Lingard?

As per The Guardian, West Ham manager David Moyes is now ready to step up his interest in Lingard.

The same report also states that the Scotsman is willing to consider offers for Said Benrahma as he looks to increase his transfer budget.

Lingard, of course, would not cost a transfer fee, with the 29-year-old set to leave Manchester United for nothing when his contract expires at the end of the month.

However, with Lingard reported to be on around £80,000 a week at Old Trafford and not costing his next club a fee, he is likely to want big money wherever he is playing at next season.

What has Talbot said about Lingard to West Ham?

Talbot believes the above could be a problem for West Ham, but he has told GIVEMESPORT that the Hammers are interested in bringing Lingard back to the London Stadium.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "I think they probably have to meet in the middle somewhere with regard to the wage and how it's done. He can't have the same wages he was on at Man United.

"I think he's a very capable attacking midfielder. There are some legs to it obviously, and I think he'd do well for them."

Would Lingard be an upgrade on Benrahma?

It looks like Benrahma could be leaving the London Stadium this summer, while Lingard arrives. If that is the plan, it does not sound like a bad one.

It has not quite worked out for Benrahma at West Ham, with Moyes sometimes expressing his dissatisfaction with the Algeria international's inconsistency.

"He was better today, but you saw a lot of really good and a lot of really poor so what we are trying to get is the good more regular," the Hammers boss said (via football.london) when discussing Benrahma's performance against Aston Villa back in March.

Lingard, in contrast, was anything but inconsistent during his time in east London. In 16 league games, he produced over 10 goal contributions to help Moyes' men finish sixth in the table and qualify for the Europa League.

It is no surprise, then, that they want Lingard back. Based on that spell, he would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Benrahma.
