Weghorst vs Roberts: Burnley teammates clash after Netherlands 2-1 Wales

Connor Roberts and Wout Weghorst clashed on the pitch after the Duthchman's last minute winner for the Netherlands vs Wales on Wednesday evening.

Burnley teammates Wout Weghorst and Connor Roberts clashed at the end of the Nations League match between the Netherlands and Wales on Wednesday evening.

The Netherlands prevailed in the League A, Group 4 clash at the Cardiff City stadium.

Wales looked like they had secured a point when Rhys Norpington-Davies’ 92nd minute header cancelled out Teun Koopmeiners’ opener.

But Weghorst won the game for his side in the dying moments.

Tyrell Malacia swung in an inviting cross and Weghorst powered a diving header past Adam Davies. Watch the goal below…

Shortly after the final whistle went and Roberts went over to his club teammate and it got heated between the two.

Roberts got right up in Weghorst’s face and muttered some words to him. He appeared to ask him “Why don’t you do that for Burnley?”

Weghorst did not look happy at all and shouted some words in reply as he walked away. Watch the moment below…

Awkward. Burnley bought Weghorst in January as a replacement for Chris Wood.

Burnley spent £12 million on the Dutchman in the hope that he would score the goals needed to stay in the Premier League.

He scored just twice in 20 games, though, as Burnley finished 18th and were relegated to the Championship.

The two players may not be teammates much longer with Weghorst claiming he will not be playing Championship football next season.

Weghorst told Voetbal International, per Lancashire Live: “We have clearly agreed in advance that I will not play in the Championship. The club would like to keep me and will do everything they can to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.

“For next season it is important that I can perform at a high level, also with a view to the World Cup in Qatar. You shouldn’t believe everything the media says. There is interest from Germany, England and Turkey First I will focus on Orange here and perform as well as possible. Then we’ll talk to Burnley about what’s next.”
