Leicester City ‘need’ to sign someone in the style of Torino defender Gleison Bremer this summer, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The Foxes have been linked with a move for the in-demand centre-back, although he appears to be closing in on a switch to Serie A giants Inter Milan.

What is the latest news involving Bremer?

Last month, The Sun claimed that Leicester chiefs had met with Torino’s hierarchy following their UEFA Conference League clash with AS Roma in order to discuss a potential deal for Bremer.

It’s claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ charges had hoped to secure the services of the Brazilian by offering £40 million-plus midfielder Dennis Praet, who spent last term on loan at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

However, a recent report by FootballTransfers states that Inter are set to fend off extensive competition from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and AC Milan for Bremer’s signature.

With several European giants now in the frame for the South American sensation, it seems unlikely that he will be plying his trade at the King Power Stadium next term, meaning Rodgers will have to switch his attention to alternative targets.

What has Holland said about Leicester?

Holland believes that Leicester need a ‘hard-hitting centre-back’ ahead of next season, and sounded out Arsenal’s William Saliba as another suitable fit for their requirements.

He told GiveMeSport: “Bremer from Torino, the centre-back, they've been linked with him.

“I know that he looks like he might be joining Inter, but someone of that style, Leicester need a hard-hitting centre-back, someone like William Saliba, who was on loan at Marseille last season.”

Do Leicester need another centre-back?

Leicester conceded 59 goals in their 38 Premier League fixtures last term, the highest total in the top half of the table and nine more than they let in throughout 2020/21.

In fact, even relegated Burnley had a better defensive record than the Midlands outfit, highlighting their extensive issues at the back, yet Bremer, who journalist Ryan Taylor described as “faultless”, will not be the answer to their problems.

Wesley Fofana made just seven top-flight outings in the recently concluded campaign after suffering a broken leg in pre-season, yet the Foxes lost just one of the games he started.

If Rodgers can keep the 21-year-old off the treatment table and find him a suitable partner, then Leicester’s defensive woes could be a thing of the past.
