Celtic target Christopher Scott is ‘unlikely to join’ the reigning Scottish champions this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Ange Postecoglou is believed to be in the market for a midfielder as the Hoops prepare for next term's Champions League campaign, but he may be forced to move on to alternative targets.

What is the latest news involving Scott?

Scott departed boyhood club Bayer Leverkusen for Bayern in January 2020, registering 12 goals and 15 assists in 53 appearances for the German giants’ youth sides since his arrival.

However, the 20-year-old has only seen 32 minutes of senior action despite his impressive exploits and is expected to seek pastures new in a bid for regular game time.

As a result, reliable reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that Scott was scheduled to have talks with Premier League outfit Brentford and Celtic back in March as he assessed his options.

And Sky Sports Germany (via Football Scotland) have provided an update on the attacking midfielder’s situation, claiming that Bayern have triggered an extension in his contract, ensuring they receive a fee for the youngster.

But Scott is still expected to depart the Allianz Arena after handing in a transfer request, although he’s determined to stay in his homeland for the foreseeable future.

What has Joseph said about Scott?

Bundesliga.2 outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf are said to have already opened talks for Scott, and Joseph has backed up claims that the Germany Under-20 international is eager to stay in the country of his birth.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Christopher Scott is unlikely to join Celtic.

“Our last information and our colleagues at Sky Germany are saying that he is going to leave Bayern Munich. He's not going to extend his contract, but he wants to stay in Germany.”

Do Celtic need a new attacking midfielder?

Postecoglou is tasked with the difficult job of replacing compatriot and popular figure Tom Rogic during the current transfer window following his departure.

The Australia international racked up 16 goal contributions in 50 outings across all competitions throughout 2021/22, adding a seventh Scottish Premiership title and a fifth League Cup crown to his extensive trophy collection.

Although Celtic can still call upon the technical ability and guile of the likes of Callum McGregor and David Turnbull, Postecoglou may have to look outside of the club to truly reinstate the qualities that Rogic brought to the side.
