What is the latest news involving Carrasco?

According to reports in Spain, Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle United are all interested in signing Carrasco, who the CIES Football Observatory value at £42m.

He was an important member of Diego Simeone's squad in the season that has just gone, making 44 appearances in all competitions.

34 of those came in La Liga, where the 28-year-old scored six goals and provided six assists to help Atletico finish third.

He is enjoying his second spell at the club after rejoining from Chinese side Dalian Professional on an initial loan deal back in 2020.

What has O'Rourke said about Carrasco and Villa?

O'Rourke thinks Carrasco is a player who Steven Gerrard would love to sign and someone who would adapt well to the Premier League.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "Carrasco, I think, would be ideal for the Premier League. He's a great attacking winger, he can score goals, provide goals as well, and he's played at the highest level for club and country.

"So if he was to leave Atletico Madrid, I'm sure Aston Villa would love to sign him."

What would Carrasco bring to Villa Park?

Skill and flair. When it comes to dribbling, the Belgium international is one of the best in the business.

As per FBref, Carrasco has ranked in the 96th percentile for progressive carries and the 99th for dribbles completed over the last year among full-backs, with the winger having often played at wing-back under Simeone.

From that position and others on the left flank, he averaged 2.6 dribbles per league game during the 2021/22 campaign, the most in Atletico's squad (via WhoScored). It shows just how dangerous Carrasco is on the ball.

He has been hailed as a "complete player" by Simeone, so he is the kind of footballer that his manager probably will not want to lose for a second time. But there is always the possibility that he fancies a new challenge, and if that turns out to be the case, it seems like he could have options in Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle.

For all three of those clubs, he could be a good signing, but whether Simeone would be willing to let him go remains to be seen.
