Celtic: £7m star feeling 'frustrated' at Parkhead

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou in Scottish Premiership against Rangers

Celtic defender Christopher Jullien is ‘not fully fit’ and isn’t ready to cope with the ‘intense football’ that Ange Postecoglou plays, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The 29-year-old played just 16 minutes of first-team football throughout the entire 2021/22 campaign due to a long-term knee injury and has publicly voiced his frustrations.

What is the latest news involving Jullien?

Jullien established himself as Celtic’s first-choice centre-back following his £7 million arrival from Toulouse in July 2019, claiming a domestic treble in his maiden campaign at the club.

However, an ACL tear in December 2020 curtailed the Frenchman’s progress, allowing Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh to jump ahead of him in Postecoglou’s pecking order.

As a result, Jullien recently admitted that he will consider his future at the club this summer due to his lack of action despite feeling ‘100%’ since mid-January.

“I still have a year of contract, and I’d like to continue playing here, but my priority is to be on the pitch,” said the 6 foot 5 ace to GOAL France.

“If the conditions do not change, it is certain that on my side the door will be open to continue my career elsewhere at a club where the coach would be happy to rely on my qualities.”

What has Joseph said about Jullien?

Despite Jullien’s cameo appearance in the Scottish Cup against Raith Rovers in February, the central defender failed to make another outing last term, and Joseph has claimed that was because he wasn’t ‘match sharp’.

He told GiveMeSport: “I can’t see him breaking back into the squad. He’s already said he’s been a bit frustrated.

“He’s told French media he is fit, but from what I’ve been told at Celtic, he’s not fully fit, he’s not match sharp and probably isn’t ready to burst onto the scene with the type of intense football that Ange Postecoglou likes to play.”

Where could Jullien go?

According to the Scottish Sun, Jullien is attracting attention from his homeland as a move away from Parkhead begins to look like a distinct possibility.

Do you know this obscure player Celtic signed in the January transfer window?

It’s claimed that several Ligue 1 sides are monitoring his situation closely ahead of making potential offers for his services.

No clubs are specifically named, but with almost 100 appearances in French football’s top-flight to his name, it’s unlikely that Jullien will be short of potential suitors should Postecoglou deem him surplus to requirements.
