Max Verstappen righted the wrongs of 2021 as he sealed victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez, with both Ferrari cars failing to finish.

The Dutchman saw his chances of victory last year in 2021 taken away from him in dramatic style thanks to a late puncture, but there were no such issues for him this time around, as he led home a Red Bull one-two.

Starting the race third, few actually fancied Max to take victory this afternoon with Charles Leclerc looking strong in the Ferrari and Sergio Perez seemingly having the edge in the other Red Bull, as he appeared to do so back in Monaco.

Indeed, Perez started the race the best as he overtook Leclerc into turn one off of the line, but the race would come to Max as it wore on, with Ferrari suffering more reliability issues.

Carlos Sainz was the first to retire, with him sparking a VSC as he pulled his car off of the track, with team-mate Charles Leclerc opting to pit.

The Red Bulls remained out, though, and under normal racing conditions Max overtook Sergio, with the Mexican told 'not to fight' over the radio.

The pair would pit soon after, and Leclerc would take the lead having stopped under the VSC to gain time, though it would ultimately prove academic.

Indeed, the Monegasque once again saw a potential victory taken away from him - his third time in as many races - as the Ferrari engine gave way on the start/finish straight.

"It's very, very disappointing. It hurts," said Leclerc to Sky once back in the media pen after bringing the car back to the garage, with him seeing his championship chances starting to really take a hammering.

From there, Red Bull naturally held stations with Max having the stronger race pace, as he led Perez home from George Russell, who was once again on hand to pick up the pieces and take a podium.

Elsewhere in the top ten, Lewis Hamilton took fourth but the race was massively taxing on him, as he struggled to get out of his car with back problems in Parc Ferme thanks to porpoising.

Pierre Gasly topped off a strong weekend by finishing fifth ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo - who held off Lando Norris in the final laps - and Esteban Ocon in 10th.

Up next, Montreal next Sunday.
