Tottenham Hotspur could sign Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic this summer as they search for a back-up to Harry Kane, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Spurs have been without a second-choice forward since Carlos Vinicius returned to parent club Benfica following an underwhelming loan stint throughout 2020/21.

What is the latest news surrounding Kalajdzic?

Kalajdzic has risen to prominence in Germany after enjoying a productive spell with Stuttgart over the last couple of campaigns, leading to speculation that he’s set for pastures new.

According to The Athletic, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are keen to snap up the 24-year-old due to the departure of Erling Haaland and the uncertainty surrounding Robert Lewandowski’s future.

Meanwhile, Benfica are said to be in the running after identifying Kalajdzic as their ideal replacement for Darwin Nunez, with Premier League duo Brighton and Southampton also listed amongst his potential suitors.

And a recent update on the Austria international’s situation from German newspaper Stuttgart Nachrichten (via InsideFutbol) claims Tottenham have now entered the race.

It’s claimed that Kalajdzic, who only has 12 months remaining on his current contract, is set to cost €25 million (£21.5m) this summer, a fee that could prove to be a bargain later down the line.

What has Crook said about Kalajdzic?

The likes of Vincent Janssen, Fernando Llorente and Vinicius has previously been brought in to provide some cover and competition for Kane with little success.

But Crook believes that if Kalajdzic is ‘willing’ to accept his role as second-fiddle, then he could arrive at Hotspur Way.

He told GiveMeSport: “That's the best problem for Tottenham, isn't it, trying to find someone to play second-fiddle. So, I think if he's willing to do that, I could see it.”

Would Kalajdzic be a good signing?

Pundit and journalist Marcel Reif has claimed Kalajdzic can do “crazy things in the air”, and with his imposing 6 foot 7 frame, that should come as little surprise.

The towering marksman enjoyed an impressive 2020/21, registering 17 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, but a serious shoulder injury hindered him last term.

Kalajdzic made just 15 Bundesliga outings throughout 2021/22, yet still managed to rack up a respectable eight goal contributions in that time, catching the attention of a host of clubs across the continent.

Whether Antonio Conte can convince the attacker to sacrifice a starting berth and join his Tottenham revolution remains to be seen, but he would surely be seen as an astute acquisition by the north London outfit.
