Celtic want to sign another central defender after completing a permanent deal for Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Hoops regained the Scottish Premiership title last season, but appear to be in no mood to rest on their laurels.

What's the latest transfer news at Celtic?

Carter-Vickers spent last term on loan at Celtic from Tottenham, and appeared in 28 top-flight matches for Ange Postecoglou's men.

After impressing for the club, Celtic opted to try to make his stay a permanent one, and they confirmed earlier this month that they had wrapped up a four-year deal for the centre-back.

Now that transfer has been finalised, Celtic have moved on to trying to bring in another defender, and they have been linked with Manchester City's Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

What has Joseph said about Celtic's transfer plans?

Joseph has claimed that Celtic still want to bolster their back line despite landing Carter-Vickers, and he has stated that they are keeping a close eye on the 6 foot 2 youngster Harwood-Bellis.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think after getting Carter-Vickers, Celtic would like to add another centre-back, because I’d imagine they feel Jullien may leave, or may need to take time before he gets back to first-team level. Taylor Harwood-Bellis is someone who they’re closely monitoring.”

Would Harwood-Bellis be a good signing for Celtic?

Postecoglou's side only conceded 22 goals in the Scottish Premiership last season, which meant they had comfortably the best defensive record in the division.

Therefore, some may question whether adding another defender to their ranks is necessary.

Still, Harwood-Bellis looks to be fine prospect, who has already picked up invaluable experience at just 20 years of age.

The £6.3m-rated defender has had separate loan spells at Blackburn and Stoke in the Championship, either side of a temporary move to Anderlecht in Belgium.

Furthermore, he is now a regular at Under-21 level for England, and has captained his country in each of their last six competitive matches.

This suggests that he is a leader with a strong character, which could make him a useful addition to Celtic's defence next season if they can get a deal over the line.
