The former kickboxer turned MMA great has an impressive record inside the cage, but it is not a perfect one.
Whilst Adesanya has been racking up wins in the UFC he does have a number in the loss column, and we’ll explain to you in this article how these came about, what weight division they were in and the reasoning behind them.
Here’s everything you need to know about Israel Adesanya’s losses inside the UFC octagon across the weight divisions he has competed in.
Israel Adesanya UFC Loss
As of writing (on Tuesday 14th June 2022), Adesanya has not lost in the UFC whilst competing in the 185-pound middleweight division.
Adesanya debuted for the company in 2018, defeating Rob Wilkinson in his first contest in the 185-pound division.
Adesanya currently only has 1 loss on his UFC record, which came in the 205-pound UFC Light Heavyweight division against Jan Blachowicz.
Adesanya vs Blachowicz
The Last Stylebender’s lone loss in the UFC octagon came at UFC 259 on March 6th 2021 against the aforementioned Blachowicz.
Adesanya lost the fight via unanimous decision, therefore being unsuccessful in his attempt to become a champ-champ in the company, a feat accomplished by the likes of Amanda Nunes, Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier.
Blachowicz was able to use his significant size advantage to control the fight, making Adesanya unable to utilize his striking and having to work hard on the ground to escape Blachowicz’s superior wrestling ability.
As of writing, it is not currently known if The Last Stylebender will be attempting a return to the Light Heavyweight division, although there are many fans who would relish the opportunity to see the fighter back up against the likes of Glover Teixeira, Jiri Prochazka and possibly even Jon Jones if he ever were to return to the division where he is considered by many to be the GOAT.
