Dustin Poirier has made a brave prediction regarding a possible showdown with UFC star Nate Diaz.

Ever since his defeat to Charles Oliveira at UFC 269, Dustin Poirier has been itching to get back inside the Octagon. It seemed, on multiple occasions, as if the UFC was ready to give him a fight - but for whatever reason, we have yet to see ‘The Diamond’ climb back into the cage after six months of waiting.

The former interim lightweight champion knows what he brings to the table in terms of star power and after two straight wins over Conor McGregor, you’d have to imagine he’ll be torn between big money paydays and pursuing the title once again.

Of course, he’s got enough time left on the clock to ensure he can do both, which is probably one of the reasons why he’s been so adamant that he wants to take on Nate Diaz.

These two foes have made no secret of the fact that they don’t like one another and yet, years on from when they first had the chance to stare each other down, we’re still waiting to see them collide.

Diaz has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract and if Poirier is the man to help him run out the clock, he plans on doing so in style.

“I stop him in the 4th”

Poirier was responding to a fan who, by contrast, thinks Diaz could finish him before they even hit the championship rounds.

Long overdue

While many fans will only remember their constant back and forth in the last few months, it’s worth remembering that this pairing was first made all the way back in late 2018.

Poirier and Diaz had been scheduled to meet as one of the featured match-ups on the seemingly cursed UFC 230 card at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, an injury to Poirier ruled him out of the event, which is something the Stockton king has always held against the Louisiana native.

Either way, it’d be a shame if we never get the opportunity to witness these two Hall of Fame candidates square off.
