Leeds United signing Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca shows ‘Jesse Marsch is clearly making his mark’ on the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old is expected to complete a €14 million (£12.1m) move to Elland Road imminently and will become Marsch’s third signing of what is shaping up to be a busy summer.

What is the latest news involving Roca?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that personal terms have been agreed between the Leeds hierarchy and Roca’s representatives, with the player set to sign a four-year contract.

Romano has also stated that payment terms between the two clubs will now be discussed before a deal can be finalised, ending the former Spain Under-21 international’s two-year stay at the Allianz Arena.

Roca will join attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson and right-back Rasmus Kristensen in signing for Leeds during the current transfer window after they secured their Premier League status on the final day of 2021/22.

It’s evident that Marsch is being allowed to shape the first-team squad in his image following an underwhelming season for Leeds last time out that saw ex-boss Marcelo Bielsa sacked.

What has Jones said about Leeds?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “In terms of Roca, if you get him, which is looking likely, you're getting a guy who was labelled the next Xabi Alonso when he moved to Bayern.

“The move didn't work out, but he's a really good player and one that shows Jesse Marsch is clearly making his mark on Leeds here with his signings.

“He really likes him, and this will be the third signing that Marsch has had a big hand in as his team develops beyond the one that was built around Phillips, Cooper, Ayling and Bamford.”

Will Roca be a good signing?

Roca, who has made 145 senior appearances throughout his career for boyhood club Espanyol and Bayern, is a defensive midfielder capable of dictating play from deep.

As per FBref, the 6 foot ace has ranked in the 93rd percentile for pressures, the 92nd for passes attempted and the 87th for progressive passes amongst his positional peers over the last year.

These figures indicate that Roca should not only be able to fit into Marsch’s high-energy pressing style but that he also possesses the ability to move the ball forwards accurately on a consistent basis.

With the future of Kalvin Phillips remaining firmly up in the air, the arrival of Roca will surely ease any concerns the Leeds faithful have over life without their homegrown star.
