Roma have announced the signing of veteran midfielder, Nemanja Matic.

The Serbian has joined Roma on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester United expired this summer.

“I am pleased and honoured to be joining this club and I cannot wait to start the new season with my teammates,” Matic told Roma’s official website.

“Roma is a big club, with amazing fans and a coach, Jose Mourinho, who is well known to everyone – making the decision to come here very straightforward.

“I hope that by working together we are able to achieve some great things.”

Jose Mourinho has now signed Matic on three separate occasions.

The Portuguese purchased Matic while he was at Chelsea and Manchester United. He has now done so again at Roma.

Matic features in Mourinho’s all-time most used XI. But who else features? We’ve answered that question using stats provided by Transfermarkt below…

GK: Petr Cech (Chelsea) – 195 appearances

Cech won four Premier League Golden Gloves, given to the goalkeeper who conceded the least goals in a season. He won two while Mourinho was his manager (2004/05, 2013/14).

RB: Paulo Ferreira (FC Porto, Chelsea) – 211 appearances

After helping Porto to Champions League glory, Mourinho decided to bring Ferreira along with him to Chelsea.

CB: John Terry (Chelsea) – 266 appearances

Mourinho’s second most used player. He scored 26 times in seven seasons under Mourinho, which isn’t a bad return at all for a defender.

CB: Ricardo Carvalho (FC Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid) – 292 appearances

Carvalho played under Mourinho at three different clubs and were together for 10 seasons.

LB: Marcelo (Real Madrid) – 113 appearances

Mourinho managed one of the greatest left-backs ever during his three-season stint at Real.

CDM: Nemanja Matic (Chelsea, Manchester United, AS Roma) – 159 appearances

Matic, now 33, will add to his tally of 159 appearances under Mourinho.

CM: Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) – 151 appearances

Alonso was a virtual ever-present for Mourinho during his time at Real.

CM: Frank Lampard (Chelsea) – 215 appearances

Lampard directly contributed to 131 goals (71 goals, 60 assists) during his time with Mourinho. What a return for a midfielder.

CAM: Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid) – 157 appearances

An assist-machine. He created 80 goals under Mourinho. A large chunk of those were for Cristiano Ronaldo.

ST: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – 164 appearances

Ronaldo averaged over a goal-a-game under Mourinho as he scored 168 times and recording 49 assists in 164 games. Ridiculous numbers.

ST: Didier Drogba (Chelsea) – 186 appearances

Mourinho was manager when Chelsea paid £24m to sign Drogba from Marseille in 2004. He then signed him for Chelsea once again a decade later.
