Liverpool will give youngster Fabio Carvalho an opportunity in pre-season to potentially win a regular place in Jurgen Klopp's frontline, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Reds saw their move for the Fulham star collapse late in January, but eventually got their man less than four months later when the 19-year-old made the switch to Anfield in a £7.7m deal in May.

What's the latest news involving Carvalho?

Despite the potential departure of Sadio Mane, it's an exciting time at Liverpool right now, with the Merseysiders continuing to strengthen their squad in spite of their success in recent years.

The Reds might have been just two games away from winning an unprecedented treble, but Klopp has already broke the club's record fee to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, which comes just weeks after Carvalho's move from Fulham was also confirmed.

Carvalho, who's played only four games in the Premier League, will now be competing with Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Nunez for the forward areas, which looks a daunting prospect considering he's only had one proper season of first-team football.

Despite the stiff competition at the club right now, Jones believes the £10.8m-rated teenager will get a chance to showcase his talent.

What did Jones say about Carvalho?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "They're going to test out Fabio Carvalho in that frontline in pre-season, just to see whether he's actually ready for it and it might be that he gets more of a role next season in that frontline than we might envisage."

Could Carvalho get a chance next season?

All-but one of Carvalho's appearances for Fulham last term came through the middle, although Liverpool traditionally don't play with a number 10, meaning the youngster might have to shift out wide.

During his career, playing on the wing is something Carvalho has only done on 17 occasions, but if Mane does eventually leave the club, he might be eyeing up a position on the left, which would see him competing with Diaz.

And while left-wing is far from his strongest position, many of the 10 goals he scored last season were cutting in off the left and scoring with his right, including his final strike for the club against Luton last month.

We've already seen the likes of Mane and Jota forced to show versatility to keep their place in the side and Carvalho might have to do the same to improve his game-time.
