Gran Turismo Movie: Release date and plot revealed

Gran Turismo 7 will be the next major racing title under Sony's umbrella.

The Gran Turismo movie may be hitting theatres sooner than we first anticipated.

The first details of the Gran Turismo movie’s plot have been released by Sony, revealing a true-story-inspired approach to adapting the video game franchise.

A film adaptation of the racing video game has been in development for nearly a decade, with work beginning in 2013.

In adapting the racing video game into a film, this new approach will almost certainly be more interesting than the others, no offence to the Fast and the Furious.

Now, Gran Turismo, a characterless video game series, will attempt to take Hollywood by storm, here’s everything we know so far.

Gran Turismo 7 is expected to be released by December 2022.

Polyphony Digital has long held serious competitions—the GT Academy—in which fans could play their games in competitive scenarios, with the winners receiving the opportunity to drive an actual car in an actual race. Sometimes these drivers become so good that they win in real life as well.

According to Deadline, Sony and PlayStation Productions announced Tuesday that Neill Blomkamp’s video game adaptation Gran Turismo will be released in theatres on 11th August 2023.

Blomkamp has experience making video game movies, having worked on a Halo movie with The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson years ago.

However, the cast of the movie hasn’t been announced yet, which is based on the blockbuster PlayStation game.

Described as a fantasy about a teenage Gran Turismo gamer who wins Nissan competitions before becoming a real-life racing driver, the movie’s plot outlines the exciting story.

In this way, the film could be based on Nissan’s GT Academy contest, which ran between 2008 and 2016 and gave winners the chance to join Nissan’s Driver Development Programme.

UK racer Jann Mardenborough would be the most notable success story at GT Academy. He won in 2011 and has since competed in the GP3 Series, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Japanese Super GT series.

A simple one to begin with, we beg you know this – otherwise I’d just stop here.

This is also one of several movies based on PlayStation games in the works. In the meantime, the Gran Turismo film is still in the early stages of development in May, alongside Horizon and God of War adaptations.

The gaming community should be excited because the Gran Turismo film aims to bring high-quality motorsport action to the big screen.
