Floyd Mayweather has confirmed he still has a strong relationship with Gervonta Davis despite concerns over his future.

Ever since the early days of his pro boxing career, Gervonta Davis has been aligned with Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions as a whole. The man best known to the sport as ‘Tank’ has spoken in the past about how much of a mentor Floyd has been for him, to the point where he’s even used the veteran as a guide for how to remain composed in high profile bouts.

The 27-year-old has already held world titles in three different weight classes and with a 27-0 record to brag about, it’s no surprise that he’s rapidly becoming one of the biggest names in boxing.

However, while his future may be bright, there are still a few question marks regarding his association with Mayweather Promotions and whether or not he’s going to re-sign with them.

Mayweather has been pretty quiet on the matter up to this point and in a media scrum earlier this week, he was once again hesitant to go into detail on the matter.

“I’m not here to talk about Tank. He’s a hell of a fighter,” said Mayweather. “He’s with us forever. I like Tank, I love Tank, he loves me, and we have a great relationship and we’re happy.”

The next step for Davis

‘Tank’ returned to the squared circle last month with an emphatic TKO triumph over rival Rolando Romero in the sixth round of their WBA (Regular) lightweight title encounter. Now, as we look ahead to the next couple of months, the expectation is that a step up in competition is right around the corner.

There’s been a lot of talk about him potentially squaring off with Devin Haney but beyond that, the real headline-maker right now is Ryan Garcia.

These two men have made no secret of the fact that they don’t like one another and if they get their way, it isn’t going to be long until they make a lot of money together in the middle of the ring.

Either way, though, ‘Tank’ is on a rocket ship to the moon.
