Andre Ward wants to fight Jake Paul in an exhibition bout, according to Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather, 45, and Ward, 38, were among the latest cohort of former boxers to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

The gala event was originally supposed to take place last year but it was pushed back until earlier this month after the ceremony was postponed for the second time due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But now the former pound-for-pound greats have become the two newest members of the exclusive prestigious club.

Ward has spent the past few years working as an analyst for ESPN since his retirement in 2017.

The self-appointed 'Son of God' officially hung up his gloves five years ago after beating Sergey Kovalev for a second time, leaving him with an unblemished record of 32-0.

But it seems he would love nothing more than to get his hands on Paul, who has taken the boxing world by storm over the last two years, in which time he's gone a perfect 5-0.

Andre Ward has Jake Paul in his sights as he eyes a possible comeback

Mayweather said he had spoken to Ward during the ceremony and teased a comeback could be on the horizon.

"I spoke to Andre Ward, if you guys saw us talking on stage at the International Boxing Hall of Fame," he told a press conference to promote his upcoming fight against Mikuru Nasakura.

"Andre Ward was talking to me and he said he wanted to do, or he didn't mind doing an exhibition against Jake Paul."

Speaking about being inducted, Mayweather, who won world titles in four weight divisions, said: “I done a lot in my career, but this is by far the best.

“I want to thank the International Boxing Hall of Fame for giving me this. This right here is going to my dad because he deserves it. Bernard Hopkins said it best - `You’ve got to earn it.′ - and my dad earned this ring.

“I want to say thank you to everybody for your support. I want to tell all the fighters - thank you, you guys are remarkable. There wouldn’t be no me without you guys.”

While Ward, a former two-weight world champion, added: "Boxing is a treacherous business, it's horrible, but Floyd always made boxing look fun.

"I appreciate that. I appreciate how you dealt with your big moments when you had a whole lot of pressure on you. You put some of it on yourself because you told everyone what you were going to do.

"A lot of people wanted to see you get beat because everybody says they love a winner but that's not true. When you win for a long time people want to see you get beat just to see what's going to happen to you. I appreciate your dedication to the game, bro."
