Newcastle United target Ibrahim Sangare could be ‘the perfect foil’ for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old has reportedly attracted the attention of several Premier League side following two impressive campaigns with Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven.

What is the latest news involving Sangare?

A report from Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur last month listed Newcastle and fellow Premier League side Leicester City among Sangare’s admirers.

However, Sky Sports claim that Chelsea and Manchester United ‘are interested in signing’ the Ivory Coast international as they look to reinforce their engine room options.

It’s claimed that Sangare has a €35m (£29.9m) release clause in his contract, which is not due to expire until the summer of 2025.

The 6 foot 3 ace is believed to have his heart set on a move to English football and ‘is convinced’ that he will be a Premier League player next season.

Where exactly Sangare will be plying his trade remains to be seen, though, and there could be a fiercely contested tussle for his signature in the weeks and months ahead.

What has O’Rourke said about Sangare?

Guimaraes proved to be an instant hit at Newcastle following his January arrival, and O’Rourke believes the presence of Sangare would allow the Brazilian to ‘push further forward’.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Sangare has been linked with several Premier League teams.

“He's had a very good season for PSV, and he looks like he could be the perfect foil for Bruno Guimaraes, allowing him to maybe push further forward in midfield and get into attacking positions and score goals while Sangare is sitting back in front of the defence and marshalling that side of the team.”

How good is Sangare?

Sangare was previously described as ‘an outstanding all-round midfielder’ by former PSV manager Roger Schmidt, and it’s hard to argue with that assessment.

In his 49 appearances throughout 2021/22, the defensive-minded star racked up eight goal contributions, with his underlying numbers further illustrating his outstanding displays.

As per WhoScored, Sangare averaged 3.3 tackles, 2.6 interceptions, 0.5 blocks, and 70 passes per league game last season, placing him in the top three for each metric compared to his teammates.

The holding midfielder played a key role as PSV claimed the Dutch Cup, and Newcastle will surely be hoping he can lead their charge for silverware for many years to come if he joins the club.
