Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has dropped a big claim about his future plans amid off-field controversy.

When it comes to his play on the field, you can make a solid argument that Deshaun Watson is up there with one of the best and most promising players in the whole of the National Football League right now.

After being taken with the 12th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans his first few games in the NFL showed what he could offer as he threw for 1,699 passing yards, which included 19 touchdowns for a completion rate of 61.8% before an ACL injury in practice brought his rookie season to a premature end, but he’s been able to bounce back remarkably well.

In total the 26-year-old has thrown for 14,539 passing yards and 104 touchdowns compared to just 36 interceptions, including a remarkable 2019 season that saw him put up 33 touchdowns to 7 interceptions, not to mention a further 17 rushing touchdowns.

However it’s his off-field issues that are currently putting him in the spotlight.

What’s the story?

At the time of writing, Watson is currently facing 26 accusations from personal massage therapists of sexual misconduct over the years from his time with the Texans, and whilst the matter was declined to be indicted by a grand jury, he is still facing civil lawsuits over the allegations.

Despite knowing this though, the Cleveland Browns took a major gamble on him this past offseason, as - after clearly deciding to move on from Baker Mayfield - gave the Texans a whole bunch of picks, including 1st-round picks in 2022, 2023 and 2024 in order to bring him on board even though there was the possibility that Watson could be suspended for some time by the league.

Nothing has been confirmed either way yet, and Watson - whilst maintaining his innocence - and the Browns have been carrying on as normal, with Watson taking part in the team’s offseason activities as they prepare for the 2022 NFL season.

But Watson has made sure that he’s also focusing on the even further future with his recent remarks.

What’s he said?

Speaking during a recent media session, he expressed his desire to be with the Cleveland Browns for the rest of his career:

Now whether or not his current issues will have any bearing on that, depending on possible suspension length and if the Browns are willing to stick with him through the entirety of that, we’ll just have to wait and see.

But it is set to be a rocky few months for Watson and the Browns organisation as they wait to see what the outcome is going to be.
