Leeds United are keeping a close eye on forward Alberth Elis ahead of potentially making a move for him this summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Jesse Marsch is keen to strengthen his front line this summer, and that could see Elis make the switch to Elland Road ahead of next season.

What's the latest news involving Elis?

Elis spent last season on loan at Bordeaux and made a positive impression, despite the side finishing bottom of the table.

He chipped in with nine goals and one assist in France's top division, and Bordeaux have the option to buy him outright this summer from his parent club Boavista.

However, Bordeaux have recently been hit with the dramatic news that they will be relegated to the third tier of French football due to their financial issues, and it now seems very unlikely that Elis will still be at the club next term.

Leeds have been linked with the 26-year-old, and Elis has admitted that it is a "dream" of his to try his luck in the Premier League at some point.

What has O'Rourke said about Elis?

Following this significant development regarding Bordeaux's future, O'Rourke expects Leeds to be ready to pounce if they get the chance to take advantage of the situation by signing Elis.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the 53-cap international, O'Rourke said: “I’m sure Leeds will be monitoring his situation closely, and if the opportunity does come, they will be able to offer him that opportunity to move to the Premier League.”

Would Elis be a good signing for Leeds?

Elis was only available for 20 league games last season, but he still managed to make a major impact for a team at the wrong end of the table.

This could bode well for Leeds, given that they were involved in a relegation battle themselves last season.

Elis did not shy away when his team was struggling as he stepped up on a regular basis, and Leeds need players like that if they are to improve under Jesse Marsch in 2022/23.

The Honduran forward can play in any of the front three positions, which would make him an ideal signing for Leeds.

The side had great difficulty with replacing Patrick Bamford throughout last season, but Elis could fill the lone striker role if needed, and he would also strengthen Marsch's options out wide.
