Tottenham will not end their interest in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

A move to Hotspur Way this summer now looks unlikely, but Taylor can see the north London club going back in for him in the future.

What is the latest news involving Bastoni?

Bastoni's agent recently claimed that his client will not be leaving Inter in this transfer window.

"Bastoni will stay at Inter for sure. He has a contract and he’s happy with Inter - there’s no problem," he said.

It comes after both Tottenham and Manchester United showed interest in signing the centre-back for the 2022/23 season.

According to the Daily Mail, Bastoni was a £50m target for his former manager Antonio Conte, while the Red Devils had made an enquiry about the player.

What has Taylor said about Bastoni and Tottenham?

Taylor does not think Tottenham's interest in Bastoni will cool because the Italian is someone who is rated by everyone at the club.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Express journalist said: "I think the players that will make way [at Inter] will be Milan Skriniar and Denzel Dumfries. That seems to be the suggestion, which is interesting because Dumfries has obviously been really good since joining.

"I do think now Spurs will move on to other targets, but I don't think they'll end their interest in Bastoni. He remains a player the board unanimously agree on."

Should Tottenham end their interest in Bastoni?

No. He is clearly a player Conte really wants having worked with him during his time as Inter manager.

Under the 52-year-old, Bastoni played 74 times and went on to win the Serie A title in the 2020/21 season.

The Italy international is also, of course, a left-footed central defender, which is often a rare commodity in the transfer market. It makes him perfect for that left spot in Conte's back three at Tottenham.

Bastoni is very adept at playing out from defence, too. Over the last year, he has ranked in the 85th percentile for progressive passes and the 89th for progressive carries among centre-halves (via FBref).

And at 23, the Inter star, who is valued at £60m by the CIES Football Observatory, still has plenty of time to improve.

When you consider all of that, Bastoni is definitely a player Spurs should keep on their shortlist, and it looks like they will do just that.
