Manchester City recently secured the signature of one of Europe's hottest young prospects in Erling Haaland.

A mere £51 million transfer fee was all they needed to secure his services due to a cleverly inserted buy-out clause in Haaland's contract at Borussia Dortmund.

Although, with his estimated £375,000-per-week wage, hefty agent fees and lucrative sign on bonus we can expect the overall cost of the deal to rise significantly.

Nevertheless, in today's market, Haaland was a steal for the club and his stats show us exactly why.

Haaland's crazy goalscoring stats

The 21-year-old Norwegian striker has blitzed every competition he's played in to date, scoring a frightening amount of goals despite his young age.

At Red Bull Salzburg he scored 29 goals in 27 matches for the club despite still being a teenager.

His move to Dortmund after just 12 months in Austria would see him step up in class, but it was a challenge that Haaland rose to with flying colours.

In the colours of the Yellow Submarine, Haaland would fire a further 86 goals in 89 matches.

His form in the Champions League was particularly impressive as he averaged more than a goal per game in the competition for the German club.

Haaland's stats at 21 compared to the world's greatest ever strikers

They don't call Haaland 'The Terminator' for just any old reason, the guy is a machine and his stats prove it.

But how does his career so far compare to the finest strikers to ever do it?

The Sun have recently compared Haaland's career goalscoring return at the age of 21, to nine of the most iconic strikers to grace the game.

We're talking legends like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Wayne Rooney to name just a few.

Check out what they came up with below.

10. Alan Shearer: 111 games / 24 goals = 0.21 (goals per game ratio)
9. Cristiano Ronaldo: 223 games / 55 goals = 0.23
8. Robin van Persie: 124 games / 31 goals = 0.25
7. Wayne Rooney: 225 games / 76 goals = 0.33
6. Harry Kane: 190 games / 63 goals = 0.33
5. Romelu Lukaku: 259 games / 102 goals = 0.39
4. Sergio Aguero: 235 games / 93 goals = 0.4
3. Lionel Messi: 179 games / 80 goals = 0.47
2. Neymar: 179 games / 85 goals = 0.5

Haaland absolutely annihilates the list, more than tripling the output of Shearer and nearly even Ronaldo.

Neymar and Messi are his closest rivals but even those two are some distance off the Norwegian having scored 50 or more goals less.

Of course, toughness of the league will always come into play and you could argue that works against Haaland, however come August get ready to witness what could an explosive debut season for City's latest recruit.
