Khamzat Chimaev is one of the fastest-rising fighters and exciting strikers in the UFC, and he recently claimed that he could even defeat his past opponent Gilbert Burns in a ‘special grappling’ match without any striking.

Chimaev recently sat down alongside his ‘Smesh Bro’ Darren Till and discussed a number of topics for the Blockasset Blockparty live stream.

When his contest with Burns was brought up, Chimaev laughed off the idea that the Brazilian fighter was better than him in terms of grappling and work on the ground.

Here is what Khamzat Chiamev had to say about potentially facing UFC fighter Gilbert Burns in a special rules grappling match in the near future.

Khamzat Chimaev on Gilbert Burns

Prior to his fight against Burns, Chiamev had been steamrolling whoever had been put against him inside the octagon.

The 28-year-old Swedish fighter had never gone beyond the second round in the octagon, so his five-round clash with Burns was the most he had ever been tested.

Despite Chimaev having to go the distance to get the win, many are still rolling with the ‘Borz’ hype train, and his comments on the Bllockparty live stream only add to his allure as a personality in MMA.

In terms of his fight with Burns, he said: “Someone said like he stopped his takedowns, he didn't stop my takedowns, I stopped HIS takedowns. When I took him down [my] coach said ‘let him come up,’ that's why I let him come up.

“Actually I could hold him down and smash his face on the ground as well. I said if they want to try my grappling or something after the fight make me like a special grappling match and [I’ll] smesh him there as well.

“I don't think that guy is better than me on the ground as well. Gilbert Burns said in interviews ‘I need five runs for the fight, five rounds’ but if you needed five rounds then wy in the last round…why do you look at the camera like ‘how long is it, how much time left?’

“He was running around. I just looked at his face, looked at his eyes, I took him down and smeshed him you know? I could’ve fought two more rounds, no problem.”

Chimaev is rumoured to be fighting at the upcoming Abu Dhabi event in October 2022, but as of writing, this has not been officially confirmed by the UFC.
