Tottenham could turn to Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet as a "last resort" option this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Antonio Conte is keen to bring in a new centre-back in the current transfer window, but Bridge thinks Lenglet is way down the Italian manager's wishlist.

What's the latest news involving Lenglet?

Lenglet was restricted to just 21 league appearances for Barcelona last term, and Spanish outlet CCMA recently reported that he has agreed to leave the Catalan giants ahead of next season.

The same report states that Spurs have shown some interest in the French international, and they would be willing to sign Lenglet on a two-year loan deal.

Barcelona may be happy to do this as they need to offload a number of players this summer to ease their current financial difficulties.

What has Bridge said about Lenglet potentially joining Tottenham?

Tottenham's main centre-back target appears to be Alessandro Bastoni, but his agent has stated that the young defender will be staying at Inter Milan.

Bridge has mentioned a couple of other potential options for Spurs, including Lenglet, but he does not expect Tottenham to bring the £70,000-a-week defender over to north London unless they get desperate towards the end of the transfer window.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Bridge said: “There’s talk about Bremer, the Torino defender, and then the one Barcelona have offered to every European club, Clement Lenglet. I think that could be a very last resort. Even a deadline day one maybe, if Tottenham really have not got anyone, but he’d be the last resort, I’d imagine.”

Should Tottenham look to sign Lenglet?

Lenglet has 15 international caps to his name, and was very highly regarded when Barcelona signed him from Sevilla in 2018.

However, his stock has fallen significantly since then, particularly over the last 12 months.

In 2021/22, he received an average game rating of just 6.30 from WhoScored, ranking him 30th in the Barcelona squad.

By comparison, Ben Davies earned an average mark of 6.77, and he finished the season strongly as Tottenham ended the campaign inside the top four.

Conte wants to bring in a centre-back to play alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier, but there is no suggestion that Lenglet would be an upgrade on Davies based on recent form.

As a result, if Spurs continue to be frustrated in their pursuit of another central defender, they may be better off sticking with their current options rather than turning to Lenglet.
