Everton manager Frank Lampard will prioritise signing a central midfielder once James Tarkowski completes his move to the club, according to the Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Toffees are yet to add to their squad in the current transfer window, but they could now be set for a busy couple of months in the market ahead of next season.

What's going on at Everton?

The Liverpool Echo has reported that Tarkowski's move to Everton has been finalised, but the club are set to hold off on announcing the deal until his contract at Burnley expires at the end of the month.

Both teams were involved in a relegation battle last term, and it is believed that Everton don't want to confirm the transfer yet due to the current tension between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, in terms of potential outgoings, Richarlison has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent days.

What has Brown said about Everton's transfer plans?

Brown has hinted that Lampard may have to make significant changes to his squad this summer in order to see an improvement in results next season.

However, he expects the ex-Chelsea boss to focus his attention on strengthening his midfield next.

Looking ahead to how the window may pan out for Everton, Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “It may depend on who they sell or who they’re forced to sell. Certainly, they look a bit light in the forward areas. I think his main priority seems to be in midfield after getting Tarkowski over the line.”

Which midfielders have Everton been linked with?

The Telegraph claimed earlier this month that Lampard could look to raid his former club by trying to sign Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour.

The pair spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace and Norwich, respectively, with Gallagher enjoying a particularly productive campaign as he registered 11 top-flight goal involvements.

Gilmour's temporary stay at Carrow Road was far less successful, with the Canaries suffering relegation, but Lampard has shown faith in the youngster before, handing him his Premier League debut at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham's Harry Winks was another name mentioned in The Telegraph's report as a potential arrival at Goodison Park.

The England international has slipped down the pecking order in north London over the last couple of years, and Lampard could offer him the opportunity to revive his career on Merseyside.
