Arsenal have liked Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a "very long time", says Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The England international has been linked to a host of Premier League clubs, with the Gunners being one of them.

What is the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

According to a recent report from The Telegraph, Newcastle United were quoted £60m after they enquired about Calvert-Lewin.

The Magpies, however, are not the only team who have looked at the 25-year-old, with Arsenal and Manchester United also said to be sniffing around.

As per the Daily Mirror, the two English giants have expressed an interest in Calvert-Lewin as they look to improve their attacks.

Arsenal in particular need to sign a new centre-forward following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's move to Barcelona in the January transfer window and Alexandre Lacazette's return to Lyon.

What has Brown said about Calvert-Lewin and Arsenal?

Brown has told GIVEMESPORT that Calvert-Lewin has been on Arsenal's radar for a while but is more likely to join the Gunners alongside a marquee striker rather than arrive as one.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Star journalist said: "Arsenal have liked him for a very long time - that has not gone away.

"They have plenty of options in the market. I think now, if they were to make a bid for Calvert-Lewin, they'd be willing to sign someone else with him rather than make him the big, top-line marquee kind of signing that they're looking for."

Should Arsenal sign Calvert-Lewin this summer?

Mikel Arteta obviously needs reinforcements and Calvert-Lewin would not be a bad option.

Last season, of course, was not his best, with the Everton man scoring just five times in the Premier League. However, he did miss a lot of action due to injury.

The campaign prior, when he was able to stay injury-free, he managed to find the back of the net on 16 occasions in the English top flight.

Does that warrant a £60m transfer fee? Probably not, especially with reports suggesting that Arsenal could get Gabriel Jesus for £10m less.

Ultimately, Calvert-Lewin could be a good addition at the Emirates, but you would have to question whether the north London club would be willing to spend £60m to acquire him this summer.

Whatever the case, Arsenal need to bring in a new striker ahead of the 2022/23 season, and you would expect them to do just that.
