Aston Villa will 'listen to offers' for 56-cap star at Villa Park

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard issues instructions on the touchline

Aston Villa would be willing to listen to offers for Trezeguet this summer, believes journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Egyptian winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir and is being linked with another exit from Villa Park.

What is the latest news involving Trezeguet?

Earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano reported that Villa had received an approach from Trabzonspor for Trezeguet.

According to the Italian journalist, the 27-year-old is also attracting interest from other clubs in Turkey, which comes as no surprise given how his loan spell at Basaksehir went.

In 13 appearances, the 56-cap Egypt international managed to score six goals and come up with a few assists to help Basaksehir finish fourth in the table.

Trezeguet played just once for Villa last season before moving to Turkey, though that was largely down to him still recovering from knee surgery.

What has O’Rourke said about Trezeguet’s Villa future?

O’Rourke does not think Trezeguet is a part of Steven Gerrard’s plans and expects Villa to listen to offers for him.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I don’t think he has any long-term role in Gerrard’s team going forward, so I would imagine Villa would be willing to listen to offers for him this summer to move on.”

Should Villa sell Trezeguet?

Assessing their squad, £47,000-a-week Trezeguet is a player Villa can probably afford to let go. In fact, they already showed that by allowing him to join Basaksehir in the winter transfer window.

In the attacking positions, the Villans have some really talented players, with Philippe Coutinho obviously coming to mind.

The Brazilian was excellent last term following his arrival from Barcelona on an initial loan deal, coming up with eight goal contributions in 19 appearances.

What year were the club founded?

Gerrard, of course, also has the likes of Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey to call upon. The latter endured a tough season due to injury, but when the Jamaica international is fit, he can be a problem for defenders.

“Leon is a hugely exciting young striker with great pace and creativity,” former Villa manager Dean Smith said after the Midlands club bought Bailey last August.

“He has enjoyed a successful career at Leverkusen and we are now looking forward to watching him show his skills and talents for Aston Villa in the Premier League.”

Ultimately, with Villa possessing Coutinho, Bailey and Buendia and having the chance to sign a new attacker this summer, they are easily in a position where they can allow Trezeguet to move on.
