Former Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has shown off his incredible weight loss with a photo posted on social media.

The 32-year-old certainly enjoyed a very productive career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, even if there wasn’t any silverware that came with it. The Steelers did manage to reach one Super Bowl during his time there, but fell to the Green Bay Packers during the 2010 season.

But without that Vince Lombardi Trophy, there was still plenty for him for him to celebrate during his time in the league, as having been taken in the 1st round of the 2010 Draft, he immediately established himself as the Steelers starting centre and didn’t look back.

He was named to 9 Pro Bowls during his career, was named 1st-team All-Pro 3 times, 2nd-team All-Pro a further two times and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s, making a pretty strong case for himself that he could be in the Hall of Fame in the future.

An incredible reliable player too, he only really had one bad injury during his career that forced him to miss a significant chunk of the season, that being an ACL and MCL injury during the first game of the 2013 season.

Shedding it all off in retirement

The 6’4 Pouncey had a listed playing weight of 304lbs, a figure that he maintained throughout his career as he entered the league out of the University of Florida at the same weight, so he was certainly quite the man-mountain on the offensive line.

But now that he is out of the game and enjoying life, he’s in the process of shedding off some of the weight that he’s got on him and is looking quite good as a result of it.

A picture that he posted on his Instagram account was relayed on Twitter by Pittsburgh journalist Bob Pompeani that shows him on holiday on a boat looking incredibly trim:

These two pictures from his day at the NFL Combine (above) and then during his playing days (below) show just how much weight he’s managed to lose since stepping away at the end of the 2020 season:

A lot of weight to get off

Being the biggest men on the field, offensive lineman need a lot in them if they are going to stay in the best condition possible and to be as hard to shift as they can, which is why their diets can often be quite insane to think about for a normal person.

An article on ESPN of former Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas explains what his daily food quota was, and whilst Pouncey’s was probably at least slightly different, it just gives an idea into what an offensive lineman needs to stay in shape:

Think breakfast: four pieces of bacon, four sausage links, eight eggs, three pancakes and oatmeal with peanut butter, followed by a midmorning protein shake.Lunch? Perhaps pasta, meatballs, cookies "and maybe a salad, great, whatever" from the team cafeteria. For dinner, Thomas could devour an entire Detroit-style pizza himself, and then follow it with a sleeve of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies and a bowl of ice cream. And finally, he would slurp down another protein shake before getting into bed.

And it’s clear to see that Pouncey has clearly been laying off the food since he stepped away from the game.
