Naomi Osaka will not compete at Wimbledon this year and joins Eugenie Bouchard in making the decision to withdraw from the tournament. The former world number one recently admitted she would likely not participate at the grass-court Grand Slam after it was stripped of ranking points. The WTA and ATP made the decision to remove Wimbledon's ranking points after the All England Club banned the participation of Russian and Belarusian players following the invasion of Ukraine."I’m not sure why, but if I play Wimbledon without points, it’s more like an exhibition," Osaka said last month. "I know this isn’t true, right? But my brain just like feels that way. I just can’t go at it 100 percent. "I didn’t even make my decision yet, but I’m leaning more towards not playing given the current circumstances, but that might change."Following a recent update, it has now been confirmed that the Japanese star will miss her third consecutive grass-court Grand Slam.

Osaka has also been struggling with an Achilles problem she picked up during the Italian Open. Last week she uploaded a video to Twitter of her running on an underwater treadmill in attempt to get fit again, but admitted her injury "is being stubborn still."

Her injury is likely playing a part in her decision to withdraw from Wimbledon but ultimately it seems the lack of ranking points has unsettled several players.

Bouchard has decided to forego the summer competition for the same reason.

The Canadian posted her decision to Twitter earlier this week and explained she is struggling with a shoulder injury, which means she is allocated "a limited number of protected ranking (PR) entries" and wants to focus on competing at the US Open in September and next year's Australian Open.

"I have decided to withdraw from Wimbledon due to the WTA's decision to not award ranking points at this year's Championships," she wrote.

"Due to my shoulder surgery, I get a limited number of PR entries. As much as I love Wimbledon and skipping it makes me sad, using a PR entry at a tournament with no ranking points doesn't make sense."
