UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Julianna Pena recently discussed her mentality towards her own brand and fight promotion ahead of her huge rematch against Amanda Nunes at UFC 277 in July 2022.

Nunes is regarded by many as the GOAT of Women’s MMA, but Pena was able to pull off arguably the biggest shock in combat sports history back in December 2021 at UFC 269 when she made Nunes tap out to a rear-naked choke.

Ahead of one of the most anticipated contests of 2022, Pena revealed why she wants to promote herself in a “classy” way, as opposed to some other female fighters in mixed martial arts.

Here is what Julianna Pena had to say regarding her personal branding and fight promotion ahead of her rematch with Amanda Nunes at UFC 277.

Julianna Pena on ‘Sex Sells’ Promotion

Pena recently appeared on Barstool Chicago’s RebuildEd podcast, and she revealed that she has physical insecurities.

She said: “I think that it’s (physical insecurities) helped me in a way, because it’s easy to take your clothes off and sell something on Instagram and be this sexy model, but I’m trying to do it in a classy way where it’s like, I don’t have to take my clothes off to get people invested in what I do.

“So, it’s almost like, a thing that’s benefited me in another way as well, because I’ve got a daughter and I want to set a great example for her. I don’t want her to, years from now, be on Instagram and see her mom being half-naked.

“I’m not trying to knock anybody for doing that, you know, get your paper boo-boo, do what you gotta do.

“But for me, it’s put me in a situation where I have to market myself in a different way that’s not about taking my clothes off and trying to be a ‘sex sells’ kind of person.”

UFC 277 will be taking place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and there are a number of huge bouts set to take place beyond the massive main event between Pena and Nunes.

Hopefully, Pena and Nunes will be able to live up to their first battle and produce more magic in the octagon, with a more focused Nunes looking for redemption and to regain her champ-champ status in the company.
