Liverpool announced the signing of 18-year-old right-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen on Sunday morning. The teenager has signed a five-year deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side after the Reds secured a £4.2 million deal, per BBC Sport.Liverpool may have to pay a further £2.5 million in potential add-ons, while a 17.5% sell-on clause has also been inserted in the Scotland Under-21 international’s contract.Ramsay, who scored one goal and provided nine assists in 33 appearances for Aberdeen last season, told Liverpool’s official website: “I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here.“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got.“Hopefully I can come in in pre-season, show everyone at the club, the staff, players what I’ve got and then we’ll see what happens from there.”

He added: “There’s been a lot of young players that have played – the likes of Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Harvey [Elliott] as well, there’s a lot more.

“There’s obviously a pathway here – that’s one of the reasons I chose it as well. It’s not just a massive club, they give young players chances in the first team.

“So if I can come in in pre-season, put my mark down, then there’s no reason why I can’t push to get in the first-team squad.”

Indeed, it’s understood that there are no plans for Ramsay to be loaned out. He will immediately be part of Klopp’s first-team squad for pre-season.

Calvin Ramsay to 'immediately challenge' Trent Alexander-Arnold

Ramsay, who is Liverpool’s third summer signing following the £64 million arrival of Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica and the £5 million acquisition of Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho, will reportedly have the opportunity to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold for the right-back spot immediately.

This is according to Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam, who provided more information about the deal after it was confirmed.
