Aston Villa: £15m Englishman would bring 'something different' to Villa Park

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard

Aston Villa can add “something different” to their team by signing Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, believes Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Villans are said to be interested in buying the England international this summer, and Taylor thinks he would improve their side.

What is the latest news involving Oxlade-Chamberlain?

According to Football Insider, Villa manager Steven Gerrard is a “huge admirer” of Oxlade-Chamberlain and has made signing him a top priority.

The same outlet also states that with 12 months to run on his contract, Liverpool are willing to cash in on the 28-year-old.

It has been a busy start to the transfer window for Villa, who have already signed Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos and Robin Olsen.

The Midlands club have also brought in Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona permanently following his successful loan spell last season.

What has Taylor said about Oxlade-Chamberlain and Villa?

Taylor is confident that Oxlade-Chamberlain would improve Villa and add something a little bit different to Gerrard’s side.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Express journalist said: “The kind of money Liverpool are looking for, sort of 10 to 15 million, that sort of calibre of side, Villa, why wouldn’t you look at that deal?

“I’m not the biggest fan of Oxlade-Chamberlain, personally, but I think it’s clear that he would probably improve Villa. He gives them something different; he can drive from midfield.”

What would Oxlade-Chamberlain bring to Villa Park?

As Taylor mentioned, Oxlade-Chamberlain is the kind of player who can bulldoze through midfield with the ball.

As per FBref, the Liverpool man has ranked in the 96th percentile for progressive carries and the 92nd for dribbles completed among midfielders over the last year, showing that he can indeed drive from midfield.

Former Villa striker Frank McAvennie can also see Oxlade-Chamberlain bringing goals to the Premier League club.

Do you know this obscure Aston Villa footballer from the 1990s?

“The reality is, he can go and play for Aston Villa every week,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“I can understand him wanting to go and play and he would be a really good signing for Villa. Him and Coutinho, that’s not bad, formidable. The two of them have goals in them. It would be great for the fans as well because those players play the game the way it should be played.”

All in all, Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a good signing for Villa this summer. And having made just nine starts in the top flight last term, a move to Villa Park is something that may appeal to him.
