Tottenham could make a late move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, believes Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Italian is said to be happy at the Serie A giants, but Sheth thinks the club's financial situation could force them to sell him towards the end of the transfer window.

What is the latest news involving Bastoni?

While Bastoni is attracting interest from more than one club right now, his agent claimed that he would not be leaving the San Siro this summer.

"Bastoni will certainly remain at Inter," Tullio Tinti said. "He has a contract with Inter, he is happy to play at Inter and there’s no problem."

However, since then, The Athletic has claimed that Tottenham are still trying to sign the 23-year-old, so this one might not be over yet.

Bastoni was a key player for Inter last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions, while he was also a regular when Antonio Conte was still in the San Siro dugout.

What has Sheth said about Bastoni and Tottenham?

Despite the comments of Bastoni's agent, Sheth is refusing to rule out Tottenham signing the Italy international, suggesting that Conte and Fabio Paratici could try to take advantage of Inter's financial situation later on in the transfer window.

The Sky Sports reporter told GIVEMESPORT: "Conte, very clever guy, as is Paratici. They know the situation at Inter Milan, rather like Manchester United know the situation at Barcelona.

"Are they going to use that to their advantage to maybe get a good price and maybe leave it as late as possible so that the selling club like Inter and Barcelona have no choice but to accede to the demands of a Manchester United for De Jong and a Tottenham for Bastoni? It's definitely one to watch, I think, for the remaining months."

What will happen if Tottenham fail to sign Bastoni this summer?

If there is still time left in the transfer window, Spurs could turn to RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol.

According to The Athletic, he is also a left centre-back target for the north London club, though his price tag could block a move to Hotspur Way.

Should that happen and Bastoni, who is valued at £60m by the CIES Football Observatory, remains off the table, there is always the chance that Conte goes into the new season with Ben Davies remaining as his left-sided centre-half.

While it is clear that the former Inter manager is looking for a fresh face for that position, he does seem to like Davies having played the Welshman in his back three last term despite him being a left-back by trade.
