World number two Anett Kontaveit has appointed Emma Raducanu’s former tennis coach Torben Beltz.

The Estonian started her training with the German on Sunday and they are set to travel to the UK this week ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.

Beltz has previously worked with US Open champion Raducanu, Donna Vekic and, most notably, former world number one Angelique Kerber.

His time with Kerber spanned across four different spells and he guided her to Grand Slam victories at the 2016 Australian Open and US Open.

Under her fellow German's tutelage, Kerber also finished second at Wimbledon, the Rio Olympics and the WTA Finals that same year.

Beltz's time with Raducanu was much shorter, however. The British number one appointed him as her new mentor last November but the partnership lasted just five months.

Raducanu has been struggling with form lately and the addition of Beltz was a move that failed to bring improved results.

Despite adding a coach with an impressive portfolio, the US Open champion has failed to replicate the form she showed at Flushing Meadows last September.

While working with Vekic, Beltz helped the Croatian star reach a career high of 19th in the WTA world rankings.

Kontaveit and Beltz

Kontaveit had recently been working alongside Russian coach Dmitry Tursunov, but visa issues meant he was unable to accompany her to matches. As a result, the Estonian has reached out and appointed Beltz, having stressed the importance of having a mentor who could travel to tournaments with her.

Following the French Open, the 26-year-old climbed to second in the world rankings, a new personal best. While she remains behind the dominant world number one Iga Swiatek by some margin, the Estonian will be looking to keep up her form and indeed, keep her spot in second.

Kontaveit's best finish at a Grand Slam tournament came when she reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 2020. She has only ever reached the third round at Wimbledon and will be hoping to improve on this later this month under her new mentor.
