With a rematch announced between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk for August 20, at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, people have been quick to send advise on what AJ needs to do differently this time around. In a video posted to Twitter by Everything Boxing, some key areas for improvement were highlighted ahead of the rematch. The video in question was captioned âAJ MUST go for that body from the first bell.âThe footage showed glimpses of where Joshua got some success in the first fight, targeting the body of the challenger. However, he didn't utilise it enough, something he must do this time around if he wants to be victorious. The 32-year-old is looking to become three-time heavyweight world champion after previously losing his titles to the Ukrainian when they first met in September 2021.In the comments below the video, one user said: âA âsingle focus planâ against someone like Usyk is dangerous. The moment he knows youâre looking at one target only, heâll set you up in traps. AJâs gotta make it dirty, borderline illegal, barge into him, throw elbows, step on feet. Heâs gotta fight for his life.â
Elsewhere Eddy Reynoso, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarezâs trainer, spoke to Fight Hub TV, urging Joshua to make the most of his physical advantages and throw âbetter combinationsâ in the rematch.
He said: âHe has a lot of good traits, a lot of physical traits, but doesnât take advantage of them.â
Johnny Nelson, meanwhile, spoke to Planet Sport, saying: âI think itâs a hard fight. I think itâs a harder rematch for AJ than the Ruiz rematch was. Itâs not an impossible task or ask. I think AJ has all the beatings of Usyk.
"Iâve seen Usyk from the early days, seven fights in as a pro I said this young man is the heir apparent. The problem is, once everyone knows who you are and what you can do then they can plot a plan for you.
"And now with AJ, he just has to change tactics, change style, change intentions on what he wants to do and how heâs gonna approach the fight. So I donât know what tactics heâll choose, but what Iâm saying is that itâs not an impossible task for AJ, but itâs a tough one.â
With people offering advise from all angles, fans will be watching as Joshua takes to the ring to see just what plan he decides to execute.
