Celtic defender Christopher Jullien could ‘move on’ this summer after falling out of favour, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The 29-year-old has openly expressed his disappointment at how last season panned out, opening the door to a potentially imminent exit from Parkhead.

What is the latest news involving Jullien?

Jullien tore his ACL in December 2020, keeping him sidelined for over a year until he made a 16-minute substitute appearance against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup back in February.

However, the former France Under-20 international failed to make another outing in the remainder of 2021/22 due to the impressive form of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Stephen Walsh.

And the centre-back, who is valued at £4.95m by Transfermarkt, recently revealed that if his fortunes do not change, then he will have to consider seeking pastures new.

“I still have a year of contract, and I’d like to continue playing here, but my priority is to be on the pitch,” Jullien told GOAL France.

“If the conditions do not change, it is certain that on my side the door will be open to continue my career elsewhere at a club where the coach would be happy to rely on my qualities.”

What has Joseph said about Jullien?

Celtic ended last term with a 32-game unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership to reclaim their title, leaving manager Ange Postecoglou with little reason to change his starting XI.

And Joseph has stated that Jullien ‘needs to earn his place’ in the side once again, although can envisage him departing the club over the coming months.

He told GiveMeSport: “Starfelt and Carter-Vickers were doing so well, why would you change it? And Stephen Welsh has done really well when he's come in as well, so he needs to earn his place, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was to move on.”

Would Jullien be a big loss?

Jullien proved to be an instant success after he completed a £7 million switch from Toulouse in June 2019, registering nine goal contributions in 47 appearances as Celtic claimed a domestic treble.

And he started the following campaign in equally impressive fashion, scoring three times and setting up a further two strikes in his opening 14 outings before picking up a serious knee injury.

Since then, the arrivals of Carter-Vickers, Starfelt and Walsh have added some steal to Celtic’s backline in his absence, and although losing Jullien would be a blow, Postecoglou’s charges now appear well set to cope with life without the 6 foot 5 ace should he depart.
