Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could complete his switch to Inter Milan ‘quite quickly’, according to the Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Lukaku is closing in on a surprise return to the Nerazzurri after failing to replicate the sort of form that saw his current employers part ways with a club-record fee to re-sign him last summer.

What is the latest news involving Lukaku?

Thomas Tuchel’s charges paid Inter £97.5 million to secure the 29-year-old’s services back in August, 10 years after he first signed for the west London outfit when he was still a teenager.

However, after scoring a disappointing total of 15 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, it seems as though Lukaku is destined for a switch back to San Siro.

Reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Inter and Chelsea are ‘still in talks’ after a €10m (£8.5m) plus add-ons offer for a one-year loan deal was discussed where the Italians would cover all of Lukaku's £350,000-per-week wages.

And Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has also confirmed that the Serie A giants are ‘trying to sign’ their former star.

“We’re trying to sign Lukaku and Dybala, it depends on financial situation too,” said Marotta. “We’re not going to announce Romelu Lukaku’s return today. For sure, it’s a possibility, [to sign Lukaku] but there are things to be resolved. We’ll see”.

What has Brown said about Lukaku?

Brown told GiveMeSport: “It seems like there has slowly been a move towards all parties now wanting this to happen.

“I think Thomas Tuchel has decided that Lukaku doesn't really fit in his system and doesn't want to learn how it works and how to make it fit.

“Lukaku has decided that he's never going to get the chance he was promised by Tuchel when he first came in, and Inter is the obvious spot for him because they may be the only club really pushing hard to take him.

“So, I have a feeling this is going to happen, and people in Italy tell me it's going to happen quite quickly.”

Who could Chelsea replace Lukaku with?

A recent report from Football.London claimed that Chelsea have been in touch with the agent of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.

The 25-year-old’s contract is due to expire in 12 months’ time, and City are believed to be open to sanctioning his sale following the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Jesus has racked up an impressive 141 goal contributions in 236 outings for City, claiming nine major trophies along the way, and could be a very clever piece of business by Chelsea, if they manage to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
