Former UFC fighter and MMA legend Chael Sonnen has made a huge claim with regards to Jon Jones and the 205-pound division now that the former UFC champion has seemingly moved up to heavyweight.

Jones is easily in the conversation of UFC GOAT, but Sonnen would question on his YouTube channel whether the 205-pound division is actually more interesting without ‘Bones’ in the mix.

We’ve seen a ton of movement in terms of the division’s title over the past year, with Jan Blachowicz, Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka all holding the gold.

Here is what UFC and MMA legend Chael Sonnen had to say with regards to the UFC Light Heavyweight division without Jon Jones.

Chael Sonnen on Jon Jones

The question is 205-pounds without Jon Jones, is it more interesting with Jon gone? Yes of course it is. Jon was ruining that division, he was ruining it through dominance. There was nobody that you could even imagine could deal with Jon Jones.

“As fun as some of Jon's matches turned out to be? Nobody anticipated them. This business does not survive without anticipation. Many people will try to tell you what a great fight something was when it's over, ‘oh the company's in a great spot did you see this guard it was awesome?’ That doesn't have anything to do with it, the buys are done before the match takes place.”

“One thing that drives this industry? It's anticipation. If somebody doesn't look forward to it, if somebody isn't excited about it, you don't get any money. When you're done it doesn't matter how good the match was.

"I share that with you because yes, the way that 205 pounds has been opened up, the way that Jon isn't sucking all the air out of the room? We’re getting a more normal division where you're trading that belt around, we've had three champions in the last calendar year.”

It’s not currently known when Jones will be making his return to the octagon, but it will surely be a massive box office attraction at heavyweight potentially against the likes of Stipe Miocic.
