West Ham: £25m star's exit would 'surprise' at London Stadium

West Ham United manager David Moyes on the touchline

West Ham getting rid of Said Benrahma this summer would be a surprise, says Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

There has been talk about the east London club being open to selling the Algerian winger, but Brown does not think it would be the wisest move.

What is the latest news involving Benrahma?

According to The Guardian, West Ham will consider offers for Benrahma in this transfer window.

The outlet states that manager David Moyes is keen to strengthen his attack, and selling Benrahma could help him raise the funds to do that.

The 26-year-old joined the Hammers permanently from Brentford in January 2021 in a deal worth £25m in total.

He saw a lot of action last season, making almost 50 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, yet it seems Moyes does not see him as indispensable.

What has Brown said about Benrahma and West Ham?

Brown thinks Benrahma has been an important player for West Ham so would be surprised if they did allow him to depart the London Stadium this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Star journalist said: “I’d be very surprised if Benrahma was to leave. There are other players in that squad who haven’t really met the grade this season. I think there’s an issue with [Nikola] Vlasic as to whether he needs some time out on loan somewhere, or is he ever going to be what they hoped he would be?

“Benrahma hasn’t exactly been a fixture in the side, but when he’s played, he’s, on the whole, done good things for West Ham. He’s slowly learned the system. I think Moyes took his time with him, as he does with a lot of players, and I think he has responded to that kind of treatment and has become an important player for them. So it’d be a surprise if they were to let him go.”

Should West Ham sell Benrahma this summer?

If Benrahma’s exit helps facilitate the arrival of someone like Jesse Lingard, which seems to be a possibility, then you can understand the thinking.

Do you know this obscure player West Ham signed in the January transfer window?

That being said, as Brown has pointed out, the Hammers had players who were less effective like Vlasic, who only made six starts in the Premier League last term.

It could be a case of West Ham thinking they can get more money for Benrahma, however, who has obviously done much more in English football than his Croatian team-mate, with the Algeria international coming up with eight league goals and six assists in the 2021/22 campaign.
