Arsenal are ‘looking at certain age criteria’ as they aim to conclude several more signings this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners have already added Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira to their ranks, and manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be in the market for further additions.

What is the latest news involving Arsenal?

Since Arteta took over the reins in north London back in December 2019, he has been largely backed in the transfer market, spending over £250 million on new acquisitions.

And there has been a common theme amongst the Spanish tactician’s purchases, with the majority of his signings being 25 years old or under.

The likes of Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Kieran Tierney have all arrived to complement the homegrown young talent of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah.

That led to Arsenal having the youngest average squad age in the Premier League last term at 24.4 and it seems as though they will be sticking to their current recruitment model for the foreseeable future.

Although goalkeeper Turner is 27, Marquinhos is only 19 and Vieira just 22, indicating that bringing in players who still have their best years ahead of them is a tactic the capital club are sticking to.

What has Sheth said about Arsenal?

Sheth told GiveMeSport: “They're looking at certain age criteria as well for potential players. So hence why the Marquinhos one kind of fits the profile of player that Arsenal are looking for.

“I think they want to bring a few more players in that early-20s to mid-20s age range to get that experience because they came so close to getting top four, which would have put them in a different market, I think, this summer.

“And I think because they haven't got Champions League football, maybe they'll have to cut their cloth accordingly.”

Who could Arsenal sign?

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sportwitness), Arsenal are "pressing heavily" to sign Bologna full-back Aaron Hickey, who is valued at around £21.25 million.

The 20-year-old is comfortable on either flank and could offer some much-needed cover and competition for compatriot Kieran Tierney due to his reoccurring injury issues.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has stated that deals for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, both 25, are also still in the works.

Acquiring the duo would add extra Premier League experience to Arsenal’s young side and would surely leave Arteta’s charges in a strong position for another Champions League push.
