Tottenham Hotspur may be in the market for ‘two defenders’ this summer in order to strengthen their backline, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Spurs are expected to be one of the most active teams in the market over the coming months and have already snapped up Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.

What is the latest news involving Spurs?

A report from The Athletic back in April claimed that the main focus for Tottenham is to sign a left-sided centre-back with the ‘next priority’ bringing in two wing-backs, one for each flank.

With Perisic already part of Antonio Conte’s setup, the focus may now switch to bolstering the heart of defence ahead of next season getting underway.

Full-back Ben Davies was forced to fill in on the left-hand side of three centre-back in the second half of 2021/22 due to all of Tottenham’s central defenders being right-footed.

And although the Wales international performed admirably in an unfavoured role, signing a more natural option is now at the top of Conte’s wish list.

However, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the right-footed Gleison Bremer of Torino is also on the Tottenham hierarchy’s wish list, meaning two centre-backs could be targeted.

What has Taylor said about Spurs?

Taylor believes the fact that Bremer does not favour the left side means Spurs may want to ‘sign two defenders’ this summer, while Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have been linked with moves away.

He told GiveMeSport: “Bremer is right-footed and likes to play at the heart of defence, but you get the sense Spurs are looking to sign two defenders.

“Obviously, one will be the priority, but ideally, they'd like another defender as well just to bolster their options.”

Who could Tottenham sign?

Alongside Bremer, who is believed to have a £21 million price tag, Gold also listed Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol as potential targets.

Bastoni’s agent has recently rubbished reports suggesting his client is set to leave San Siro, though, stating that the 23-year-old ‘will certainly remain at Inter’.

Another potential option is Pau Torres. The Villarreal ace has been linked with a move to the Premier League for the last 12 months and could finally be ready to make the switch.

Sky Sports Italia (via The Sun) have disclosed that Tottenham are prepared to offer unwanted midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in part exchange for the Spain international after he enjoyed a six-month loan spell with the Yellow Submarine last season.
