Manchester United ‘are speaking to’ Alejandro Garnacho over a new contract following an impressive campaign, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The 17-year-old has been widely tipped to have a great future in the game and it seems as though the Red Devils hierarchy are keen to tie him down to fresh terms.

What is the latest news involving Garnacho?

A recent report from The Mirror claims that new manager Erik ten Hag intends to ‘fast-track’ the wonderkid’s United career next season.

Since joining the 20-time English champions from Atletico Madrid in 2020, the teenager has registered 21 goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances for a variety of the club's youth sides.

Garnacho was handed his first-team debut by Ralf Rangnick via a cameo substitute outing against Chelsea before he got slightly more time to showcase his talent on the final day of 2021/22.

However, the Argentina Under-20 International truly announced himself after bagging a brace in the FA Youth Cup final in front of a packed Old Trafford, though, securing a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest as United lifted the trophy for the first time in 10 years.

And his manager Travis Binnion praised the South American starlet for how he handled the big occasion.

"That boy could be in any stadium in the world, and he wouldn't care," Binnion told reporters. "That's his make up, and a few of them are like that, that's why they are going to have good careers."

What has Talbot said about Garnacho?

Former United academy graduate and MUFCTV pundit Fabian Brandy has claimed Garnacho has a “big future” ahead of him, and it seems the club’s hierarchy agree with him.

Talbot has revealed that the skilful winger is already under contract until 2025 but that United chiefs hope he puts pen to paper on extended terms.

He told GiveMeSport: “They've got him there until 2025 on that contract, but as well as that, they are speaking to him over a deal and extending it even further. So, I guess, I don't know, 2028, or something like that.”

Where could Garnacho fit in?

Garnacho predominantly features on the left-wing, allowing him to cut inside onto his favoured right foot and pose a constant threat to the opposition's goal.

United already have several options in that position, with Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all either favouring or being comfortable out there.

Yet with Martial’s future up in the air and Rashford desperately out of form, Ten Hag could offer Garnacho a pathway into the first-team sooner than most expected.
