What is the latest news involving Neves?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently told GIVEMESPORT that the Red Devils have Neves on their list and he could be an alternative to Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.

Currently, the Dutchman is thought to be manager Erik ten Hag's primary midfield target, with Romano claiming that United have already had a £60m bid turned down for him.

Getting Neves out of his current club, though, also looks like it is going to be an expensive task.

According to The Telegraph, Wolves want £70m for the Portugal international, though the same outlet expects him to be sold for much less.

What has Talbot said about Neves to United?

Talbot thinks Neves wants a move to United this summer, though he has questioned whether the Wolves man would actually improve the side.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I think he's vying for a move away, but I don't know where he'll go. I think he wants Man United - it's the idea - but I don't really see how he can benefit them, to be honest."

Would Neves be a good alternative to De Jong?

He could be. The former Porto man, described as an "amazing" player by team-mate Jose Sa, knows the Premier League and has performed well in the competition since making his debut.

Last season, Neves was one of the highest-rated players in Bruno Lage's squad on WhoScored, while he also averaged the most passes per league game (58.5).

You just get the feeling, though, and understandably, that Ten Hag would prefer De Jong. He personally knows him from their time at Ajax, and the Netherlands international is an ideal fit for his football.

As per FBref, De Jong has ranked in the 94th percentile for progressive carries and the 95th for progressive passes received among midfielders over the past year, so he is obviously a footballer who can receive the ball and then get attacks going.

Neves is a very talented midfielder himself, so there is no reason why he cannot be a success at United. But you just suspect that Ten Hag will go with the tried-and-tested approach if possible.
