Khabib Nurmagomedov is regarded as one of the greatest Lightweight fighters in the history of the UFC, but Bantamweight division contender Sean O’Malley believes that there is a 155-pound fighter who could best the unbeaten but retired fighter.

Nurmagomedov has been retired for some time, with his final bout in the octagon taking place back at UFC 254 in October 2020 where he defeated Justin Gaethje.

Khabib has run through some huge names in the MMA world already, such as Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Rafael Dos Anjos, but fight fans are hoping that the 33-year-old former Champion will return at some point.

Here is what Sean O’Malley had to say with regards to a UFC Lightweight competitor who he believes could defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov in the octagon.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Potential UFC Return

Speaking to Canal Encarada, O’Malley questioned whether one of the reasons that Khabib chose to retire was the rise of former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira.

He said: “That’s the one interesting fight that I would like to see if Khabib came back in the division. It would be Charles. Everyone else I think Khabib kind of mauls. I think Charles is the only one that can really give Khabib problems and, who knows, maybe that’s why Khabib stepped away.

“Maybe he saw, ‘I don’t want that guy.’ Who knows, but yeah, that’s one fight that I would be interested in seeing Khabib come back for. It would be a massive fight.

“Charles is the champ and everyone knows it,” O’Malley said. “That’s just it. I don’t think anybody looks at him as not being the champ. I don’t think you can find one person that thinks he’s not the champ or wouldn’t call him the champ.

“I hope he got his pay-per-view money, I hope he is making the championship money going into the next fight. Everyone’s got to look at him as the champ, the fights he’s been doing, the performances he’s been putting on. Charles Oliveira’s the champ and everyone knows it.”

It remains to be seen whether anyone is able to coax Khabib out of retirement, but if someone is able to, then that would certainly be a massive PPV draw for the promotion and something that many combat sports fans would love to see.
