Tottenham would love to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Antonio Conte has already added three players to his squad this window and is still in the market for an understudy to Harry Kane.

Yves Bissouma recently joined Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic through the Hotspur Way entrance door, but Conte is far from done as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League and Premier League.

According to the Telegraph, he still wants to add at least one centre-back to his squad, plus a right wing-back, which could arrive in the shape of Djed Spence and a striker.

Spurs are interested in Richarlison, but Italian outlet Alfredo Pedulla believe they're ready to break their record transfer and bid £77m for Martinez, who was compared to Heung Min Son by Serie A specialist Conor Clancy recently.

Tottenham had agreed a slightly lower £63m fee for the 24-year-old last summer, although Romelu Lukaku's transfer to Chelsea meant Martinez's proposed move to north London collapsed.

But Spurs' need for a second striker remains high on Conte's priority list, especially with the club back in Europe's elite competition, and Brown reckons Martinez, described as the 'complete' player by Lionel Messi, will be their top attacking target.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I still think Spurs would love to have Lautaro Martinez, who is someone who's been on their radar for a long time, but he would obviously be massively expensive and doesn't look like he's going to move but he would be their first choice."

Do Tottenham need Martinez?

Conte might already have two of the top attacking players in the Premier League in his ranks in Son and Harry Kane, plus the talented Dejan Kulusevski, but the Italian manager is clearly looking to take Tottenham to the next level.

Signing someone like Martinez, who's scored 65 goals in the last three years, which is one more than Son and 19 fewer than Kane, could not only have the ability to see Spurs challenge with Europe's top clubs, but it would put their forward line up there with the world's best.

With Martinez arguably Inter's standout player, they're unlikely to budge easily, especially if they raise funds to help their difficulties elsewhere, but if Tottenham somehow get this one over the line, it would be an incredible statement of intent from Conte's charges.
