Leeds United are ‘getting the impression’ that Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge is ‘looking for a transfer’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane in recent weeks after he was unable to guide them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

What is the latest news involving Berge?

A recent report from YorskhireLive claimed that Sheffield United are yet to receive any contact from Leeds over Berge despite their apparent interest in the central midfielder.

It’s believed that the Blades are expecting the Norway international to attract admiring glances from several sides, though, and the player did little to dispel the speculation during a recent interview while away with the national team.

"After the national team gathering, my agents, me and the club get to take care of it,” said Berge. “I've had a nice development at Sheffield United lately. Then we will see what the future brings."

Berge’s contract, which doesn’t expire until the summer of 2024, contains a £35m release clause following Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League in 2020/21.

What has Jones said about Berge?

Leeds have already been very active in the transfer market, bringing in Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca, and Jones has disclosed that Berge is on Jesse Marsch’s list of potential future targets.

He told GiveMeSport: “They're obviously drawing up a list, at the moment, of players that they see as attainable more than anything and that fit in with Jesse Marsch’s style of play.

“Sander Berge, basically, is just one that is playing at a level below where he should be, and Leeds are getting the impression that he's looking for a transfer.”

Would Berge be a good signing?

Sheffield United splashed out a club-record £22m fee to bring Berge to South Yorkshire from KRC Genk back in January 2020, with his former boss Chris Wilder describing him as "unique" later that year.

Since then, he has registered eight goals and six assists in 66 appearances for the club across all competitions, with a string of injury and illness issues forcing him to miss over 30 matches in that time.

But when Berge is fully fit, he has proven himself to be a valuable asset, and already has 29 Premier League outings under his belt, which should mean he takes little time to re-adjust to the top-flight, should he make the switch to Leeds.
