News broke on Tuesday evening that Red Bull were suspending junior driver Juri Vips with immediate effect after he appeared to use a racial slur during a gaming live stream.

The Estonian driver currently competes in Formula 2 for the Hitech team but has had a chance to drive in an F1 car, with him competing in FP1 back at the Spanish Grand Prix weekend earlier this year in Barcelona, as he got behind the wheel of the Red Bull.

He's quite possibly put his chances of getting another go in the car at risk now, though, with him appearing to use a racial slur during a live stream of him playing Call of Duty alongside fellow Red Bull junior Liam Lawson among others.

Indeed, Red Bull quickly released this statement on social media on Tuesday, condemning any form of racial abuse, and also saying that Vips was suspended with immediate effect whilst an investigation was undertaken:

In the time since, Vips has also taken to social media to release his own statement, saying he unreservedly apologises for the remark, and that he will fully co-operate with Red Bull's investigation into the matter.

This was on Vips' Instagram:

No further comment has been made by either Red Bull or Vips with the investigation now underway and it remains to be seen what the team opts to do with their junior driver.

It also remains to be seen what happens with Vips' F2 seat, and what Hitech decide to do.
