Everton would be willing to sell midfielder Andre Gomes this summer if they receive a suitable offer for him, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Gomes has spent the last four years at Goodison Park, but has failed to live up to expectations during this period.

How has Gomes fared at Everton?

The Portuguese international initially arrived on loan from Barcelona in 2018, and the Toffees were sufficiently impressed with him in his first season to sign him permanently for £22m the following year.

However, he then went on to suffer a dislocated ankle in November 2019, and he has struggled to kick on in the aftermath of that setback.

Last season, he played just 14 times in the top-flight, and across 100 appearances for Everton over the last four years, he has scored just twice.

What has Brown said about Gomes?

Brown feels that Gomes's career has stalled since he picked up his serious injury, and he believes Everton could be ready to let him go in the current transfer window.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Gomes, Brown said: “Gomes hasn’t really been the same player since he got injured. He’s definitely gone backwards since he came to Everton, and I think if the club could find a buyer there, they would snap it up, snap a deal up.”

Is it time for Everton to move Gomes on?

It seems that way.

There were high hopes for Gomes when he first joined, but he has not delivered on his potential, and it appears that he has fallen down the pecking order on Merseyside under Frank Lampard.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan got far more game time than him in 2021/22, and Lampard is looking to strengthen his midfield this summer, with the likes of Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and Harry Winks all linked with a move to Goodison Park.

If Everton manage to bring in one or two fresh faces in the middle of the park, Gomes is only likely to play even less next term, should he stick around. At 28, he ought be in his prime years, and needs to be playing regularly.

Therefore, it may be best for all parties if Gomes is moved on while he still has two years left on his contract, so that Everton can get a decent fee for him and the player can look to get his career back on track.
